If a bridgehead server becomes unavailable in Active Directory, the replication traffic that was being handled by that server will need to be rerouted to a new bridgehead server. Here’s what happens when a bridgehead server becomes unavailable:
- Replication delays: When a bridgehead server becomes unavailable, replication traffic that was being handled by that server will be delayed. This can cause changes to the Active Directory database to be out of sync between domain controllers and can impact authentication and other services that rely on the Active Directory database.
- KCC updates: The Knowledge Consistency Checker (KCC) in Active Directory will detect that the bridgehead server is unavailable and will update the replication topology to designate a new bridgehead server.
- New bridgehead server selection: The KCC will automatically select a new bridgehead server based on the available site links, replication partners, site link costs, and other factors.
- Replication traffic rerouting: Once a new bridgehead server has been selected, replication traffic will be rerouted to the new server. This may cause a temporary increase in replication traffic as the new bridgehead server catches up on changes that were missed during the outage.
To minimize the impact of a bridgehead server outage, it’s important to ensure that multiple domain controllers are designated as bridgehead servers for each site and that appropriate failover mechanisms are in place. This can help ensure that replication traffic can be efficiently rerouted to another server in the event of an outage. Additionally, regular testing of failover mechanisms can help ensure that the Active Directory environment remains reliable and available in the event of an outage.
So, that’s all in this blog. I will meet you soon with next stuff .Have a nice day !!!
